I am Susan Akland, and I am running for the Minnesota State House of Representatives, District 19A. For over 30 years, my husband, Dr. Mark Akland, and I have lived in St Peter and worked in healthcare. Three years ago, I retired from a 40-year career in nursing, and now I am embarking on a new journey into public service.
I am running for office because I love America and want to see the core values that this country was founded on upheld and strengthened. Our individual freedoms that have been forged through self-reliance and limited powers of government are being undermined, and I want to stand in the gap to protect our republicanism, to defend our Christian moral values, to promote our American exceptionalism, and uphold the principles of the United States Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.
My father, brothers, and son all served our country through military service in their own time. Now is my time to serve—not in the military, but in St Paul. My mission in the House of Representatives is to stand up and speak up forthe constituents of 19A. My motto is to “do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with my God.”
