 Community Involvement Welcomed for the new Holiday Lights Parade

(October 15, 2012) MANKATO, MINN. - The Greater Mankato Young Professionals in cooperation with The Kiwanis Holiday Lights will present the first annual Holiday Lights Parade on November 23 from 6 - 7 p.m. in Sibley Park in City Center Mankato, MN. 

This illuminated parade will include a variety of entries, including Grand Marshals, live music, lighted floats, horses, color guards and Santa and Mrs. Claus of course!  Festivities will begin at 5 pm with fun for the whole family.  More information on the event is available at greatermankatoevents.com/event-details.php?id=13819. At the conclusion of the parade, the million LED lights will be turned on, kicking off the Kiwanis Holiday Lights event, running every evening from November 23 - December 31 from 5 - 10 p.m.  

Non-profit community organizations, performing arts groups, businesses, faith based organizations, and student organizations are all invited to partake in this parade. “The Young Professionals are so excited to bring this event to the Greater Mankato community and hope that a lot of people and organizations will be a part of it,” said Jesse Schott, YP Parade Committee Chair.  Those who wish to participate in the parade should register at greatermankato.com/holiday-lights-parade or phone 507.385.6640. There is no cost to participate, but entries are encouraged to make a financial or volunteer contribution to the Kiwanis Holiday Lights.  

Judges will choose a winning parade entry and award them a $500 cash prize. Private businesses will be asked to donate it to a participating charity of their choice.

iwanis Holiday Lights has developed a mission to create a celebration of Holiday Lights for the Greater Mankato Area that builds on past traditions and promotes the communities we serve while raising food donations for those in need. The event is free for vehicles and pedestrians to enjoy.  Free will donations and food items will be collected throughout the event and be provided to area food shelves.  Sibley Park will be illuminated with approximately one million LED lights (some animated and synchronized to music) and will feature warming houses, heated restrooms, live reindeer, Santa, and other special features throughout the holiday season.
