December Jobs Gained in Mankato - North Mankato MSA

 

Mankato, MINN (January 19, 2017) – The Mankato – North Mankato Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) finished 2016 with another month of year-over-year job growth. The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development released the December 2016 employment figures for the MSA today. The MSA saw a slight increase from December of 2015, up 0.1% or 56 jobs this year.

These preliminary numbers are refined by the state next month. Currently, 2016 shows 12 months of year-over-year job growth with a monthly average of 56,354 jobs. This is the first time the MSA has cracked the 56,000 threshold. Overall, the MSA saw a 1.07% growth from the 2015 average month employment figure (55,758). This was the highest growth rate since 2013 (1.99%).

All sectors seem to be following seasonal trends. Goods Producing (Manufacturing) dropped 200 jobs from November. Since 2011, the Goods Producing sector typically reduces from 1.5-2.0% from November to December. Service Providing had the best improvement from November to December since 2011, increasing by 247 jobs (.52%).
