GMG renews Zierdt’s contract through 2017
MANKATO, Minn. (June 11, 2012) – The Greater Mankato Growth, Inc. Board of Directors today announced the contract renewal for the organization’s President & CEO Jonathan Zierdt. The new contract begins immediately and runs through the end of 2017.
The Board of Directors began discussing the renewal of Zierdt’s contract several months ago, well in advance of the expiration of the current contract at the close of 2012. ”Our board members have been careful in evaluating GMG’s performance, and are especially pleased with Jonathan’s leadership in achieving our outstanding results. We are happy that Jonathan, with his abilities, energy and proven track record, continues his commitment to our organization and community,” said Greg Kutcher, Chair of the GMG Board of Directors and President & CEO for Mayo Clinic Health System Southwest Minnesota Region.
Zierdt began his leadership in Greater Mankato, as Executive Director of the Greater Mankato Economic Development Corporation (GMED) from 2004–2007. In 2007, GMED merged with the Greater Mankato Chamber of Commerce/Convention & Visitors Bureau to form Greater Mankato Growth, Inc., and Zierdt was named President & CEO of the new integrated organization. In 2007, the Greater Mankato Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) was also established as an LLC of Greater Mankato Growth, Inc. In 2011, following initial start-up coordination by GMG, the City Center Partnership (CCP) was formally added as an LLC of the organization.
In late 2009, Zierdt organized another effective collaboration, joining together a progressive group of communities and counties in the region to form the Regional Economic Development Alliance (REDA). By working together in their business development and attraction efforts, Greater Mankato Growth and the group are able to efficiently promote and provide both regional and geographic-specific information to current and potential businesses, resulting in collective success for all.
Together with their LLCs and alliance participants, Greater Mankato Growth, Inc. is committed to Advancing Business for a Stronger Community. Greater Mankato Growth, Inc. advances business in eight strategic areas: existing business support, new business growth, business promotion, talent development, public affairs, community marketing, visitor attraction and servicing (handled by the CVB) and civic engagement (which includes the work of the CCP).
The majority of Greater Mankato Growth, Inc.’s funding (80%) comes from business members. “Our work benefits the entire business community, but this work would not be possible if not for the individual businesses and public partners that have made the commitment to invest not only in their own vitality, but the entire marketplace as members of Greater Mankato Growth. I am humbled by the confidence these incredible members have placed in me and our organization and look forward to continuing to serve this extraordinary marketplace.”
Zierdt is quick to credit the members, partners, volunteers and the staff of Greater Mankato Growth, Inc., the CVB and CCP for all the organization has accomplished. “The forward thinking businesses and leaders in our area, together with our passionate and professional staffs at Greater Mankato Growth, Inc., the CVB and CCP, make for a talented and effective team. The success we have and the difference we make is done as a team, not by one person, and I’m fortunate to continue to be a part of such.”
