Greater Mankato at the Capitol March 18

MANKATO, MINN. (March 12, 2014) – For the fifth consecutive year, Greater Mankato Growth is coordinating the largest citizen advocacy event from our region on March 18 to heighten the awareness of our marketplace among state leaders. This year’s theme, Economy @ Work, emphasizes Greater Mankato’s continued success and our ongoing positive impact on the economic vitality of the state.

"This event allows community members the opportunity to communicate to elected officials why Greater Mankato is a great place to live, work and do business. It also affords the opportunity to discuss policy issues of concern to each individual all while raising the visibility of our marketplace," said Greater Mankato Growth President & CEO Jonathan Zierdt. “This year’s delegation includes residents as well as business and community leaders, eager to share the initiatives that are important to Greater Mankato.”

Throughout the event, attendees will have the opportunity to interact with a number of legislators and other state leaders. The day will start with a legislative update from Twin Cities Public Television political reporter and anchor, Mary Lahammer. Commissioner Katie Clark Sieben of the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) will keynote a session where she’ll speak on behalf of the Governor regarding his priorities for the legislative session, as well as provide an update on Minnesota's economy and the work taking place at DEED. Attendees will then head to the Capitol where they’ll have the chance to dialogue with a number of legislators who will provide updates on their work at the legislature this session and take Q & A. The day will conclude with a reception which will feature a presentation and video on Greater Mankato.

The cost to attend the event is $85 for members of Greater Mankato Growth and $100 for non-members.  Reports on Greater Mankato at the Capitol will be tweeted throughout the day using the hashtag #katocapitol.
