Greater Mankato Growth names Director of Project ABE

MANKATO, MINN. (February 19, 2015) – Sam Ziegler has been named the Director of Project ABE (Agricultural Business Epicenter) at Greater Mankato Growth. In this newly created position, Ziegler will work with key ag stakeholders building coalitions along with developing and executing key strategic initiatives that are essential components to realize the aspirations of the new Project ABE initiative. Ziegler will begin the position on April 1.

This hire was part of the Project ABE initiative approved by the Greater Mankato Growth (GMG) Board of Directors in November. The board committed to invest approximately $370,000 over the next three years to work on building the existing agricultural business prominence in the region and maximize the growing economic marketplace with the goal of becoming the premier agricultural business epicenter in the United States. Approximately $250,000 of the additional funding necessary to execute the new plan will come from GMG’s reserves, with the remaining generated through new earned revenue and external funding.

Ziegler has spent nearly 10 years with the Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council and Minnesota Soybean Growers Association, most recently as the Director of Marketing Programs; a year with Archer Daniels Midland (ADM); and is a 4th generation owner & operator of Ziegler Farms, located in Good Thunder.  “Sam’s firm grasp of the breadth and opportunity of the ag business industry will enable him to immediately impact our efforts to operationalize Project ABE; organizing and aligning the collective work of stakeholders to promote investment (in the full economic continuum – production, processing, professional services, education, technology, research, manufacturing, transportation, and more) in ag business across the South Central Minnesota Agricultural Region” said Greater Mankato Growth, Inc. President & CEO Jonathan Zierdt.

“I am looking forward to working with such a diverse group of professionals and businesses that all have interests in agriculture, from education, public affairs, promotion to development” said Sam Ziegler. “Agriculture is deeply rooted in Southern Minnesota and I am excited to be a part of an initiative that will help grow an already strong resource into something extraordinary.”

18 volunteers and five Greater Mankato Growth staff members were involved in the review and interview process of the hiring of Ziegler. To learn more about Project ABE please visit our website, greatermankato.com/project-agbusiness.
