Mankato Sports Commission Announces New, Outgoing Commissioners

MANKATO, Minn.—The Mankato Sports Commission, an initiative of Visit Mankato, is excited to announce its new Commissioners.

“We had a phenomenal group of 15 extremely qualified applicants for five open positions. The Nominating Committee put a lot of thought, discussion and careful consideration into each of them,” said David Wittenberg, Mankato Sports Commission chair. “It was difficult to narrow down to the number of available positions but I’m confident we brought a great slate forward to the full Commission. I am thrilled by the interest our community has shown in the work of the Commission and the desire of various community members to serve. I look forward to the work we can collectively accomplish going forward.”

The new Sports Commissioners include Holly Ahlbrecht (Feeding Our Community Partners), Jeff Annis (retired athletic director/coach), Lori Benike (Scheels), Bobby Fleischman (Minnesota State University, Mankato), Ashley Steevens (City of Mankato) and Jadon Witte (River Valley Hearing).

The Sports Commission wishes to thank Brett Skillbred, Chad Surprenant, Larissa Egli, Greg Weis and Bukata Hayes for their service on the Commission.

“I want to thank our outgoing Commissioners for their time, passion and energy in helping the Mankato Sports Commission to get off the ground and to where it is today. While the Commission is still in its early stages (established 2014), we have made great progress on several fronts and I am excited by what each of our new Commissioners brings to the table and look forward to working with each of them,” said Chris Willaert, Sports Commission director.
