Mankato Sports Commission Launches New Event Grant Program
MANKATO, Minn.—The Mankato Sports Commission stands behind its mission to help drive the sporting economy in the Greater Mankato area and helps support our local sports organizations. It is offering a new grant program to help bring new events and/or bring improvements to already established events in the area.
Up to $6,000 is available in Sports Commission grant dollars annually with a maximum of $2,000 per event.
To qualify for the grant dollars, the event must meet the following criteria:
- The event must be new (not existing in the past three years) or it must be an improvement to an already established event that will significantly increase hotel room occupancy.
- The event must be in either November through January or March through April.
- To receive $1,000 in grant dollars, the event must secure 150 hotel room nights. To be eligible for $2,000, it must secure 250 room nights.
- Event applicants can apply for renewal up to three years, but renewal is not guaranteed.

The Mankato Sports Commission, an initiative of Visit Mankato, has a mission to drive the sporting economy in Greater Mankato by providing leadership, guidance and expertise that enables the attraction, support and/or administration of sporting events and tournaments to the area. These activities bring a steady flow of visitors and business activity to Greater Mankato that benefit local residents and future visitors. The work of the Sports Commission and Visit Mankato helps strengthen the hospitality industry which provides jobs, a diverse tax base and amenities for everyone to enjoy.
