Children's Museum of Southern Minnesota to Participate in Blue Star Museums Initiative

Children's Museum of Southern Minnesota

Mankato, MN- June 27, 2022 - The Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota is proud to once again join museums nationwide in participating in the Blue Star Museums initiative. The program provides free admission to our nation’s currently-serving U.S. military personnel and their families throughout the summer. The 2022 program launched on May 21 and will continue through Labor Day on Sunday, September 4.

“The Children’s Museum is pleased to honor our service members and to help their families who have already given so much to our country,” said Kim Kleven, Vice President of Education and Learning Experience at the Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota. “This is one way we can give back and provide another outlet for children and families to enjoy.

Blue Star Museums is a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and museums across America offering free admission to the nation’s currently-serving military personnel and their families, including National Guard and Reserve.

“We are grateful for the many organizations that have signed up for the Blue Star Museums program this summer, demonstrating strength and resiliency on the heels of a very challenging period for the arts sector,” said Ann Eilers, acting chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts. “We are pleased to collaborate with Blue Star Families and the Department of Defense on this initiative, and hopeful it will provide the opportunity for military families to engage together at museums while strengthening ties to their community.”

Please present one of the following upon check-in at the Front Desk: Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID), or DD From 1173 -1 ID. The active duty military family member does not need to be present in order for their family to visit the Museum.

Participation in Blue Star Museums is entirely voluntary. By registering, museums express their appreciation for the nation’s military and their families, while acknowledging the hardships that come with that service. Blue Star Museums include children’s museums, art, science, and history museums, zoos, gardens, lighthouses, and more. Military families can plan their summer move or vacation around visits to Blue Star Museums, and explore new places in their community with outings to local Blue Star Museums. There is no limit to how many museums a family can visit during the summer.
