Home Tweet Home continues Manufacturing Division

Habitat for Humanity of South Central Minnesota

Several years ago, the Habitat ReStore volunteers made birdhouses out of scrap lumber and then had local area artists paint them. The birdhouses were auctioned off at a wine and appetizer tasting called “Home Tweet Home”, and the proceeds were used to continue our mission of providing safe, decent and affordable housing with and for families in need. The event has grown over the years and we have expanded the auction this year to include garden art, birdhouses, birdbaths, birdfeeders, and garden decorations such as fire rings, planter boxes, and trellises.

Last year, a new dimension to the event was added – the Manufacturer Division. CAB Construction, TBEI, Linder Enterprises, Jones Metal and IFS donated a garden accessory from their business to the auction.  In the past, we have had a “People Choice” award for the best individual design that was voted on by all the attendees at the event as well as adding the “Best Manufacturer - People’s Choice” award for the best design from a local manufacturer. Linder Enterprises' birdbath was the winner of the People’s Choice award for their unique metal birdbath. Other manufacturer's donations were fire rings, benches and an oblesik. All items were included in the silent auction to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity. The Manufacturerer's Division will continue for this year's event on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at the Country Inn and Suites. This is the first year the event is being held at the Country Inn and Suites. "The new location will allow us more space to expand the Manufacturer's Division while still showcasing unique, one of a kind birdhouses and garden accessories" commented Sue Ostendorf, the event coordiantor.

Tickets for the event are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Local wine and beer vendors will have free sampling and heavy appetizers are included in the ticket price. Contact the Habitat office at 508-388-2081, ext. 4 for reservations and tickets.
