K|H Law Attorney Thomas Hagen Takes Pie in The Face for a Good Cause
May 14, 2018 (ST. PETER, MN) Thomas Hagen, partner attorney for Kohlmeyer Hagen, Law Office Chtd., was among several hundred individuals who gathered this past weekend for the Great Strides for Cystic Fibrosis Foundation walk in St. Peter. This was Hagen’s third year participating in the event in support of his four-year-old niece, Mya Wheelock, who was diagnosed with the disease in August 2015.
Mya’s mother, Katie Wheelock, who is also Thomas Hagen’s sister, shares that Mya receives thirty to forty-five-minute treatments twice a day to help with her breathing and health. Cystic Fibrosis is a life-long disease that affects the lungs, pancreas and other organs. This genetic disease causes Mya to have frequent lung infections and regular visits to specialists at the University of Minnesota.
Last month, Thomas Hagen and the firm started their team, “Kohlmeyer Hagen, Law Office’s Mission for Mya” and set their sights on raising $2000 for the initiative. They also wanted Mya to celebrate with an extra “sweet” victory following the success of their fundraising efforts with Hagen taking a frosting-filled pie to the face donated by Jessica Frietag of Lush Cakes.
Hagen stated “…the financial aspect is critical to finding a cure. Program administrators announced two new CFTR drugs were introduced this past year thanks to funding from events like this and that is good news.” Hagen continued “Financial breakthroughs and research advancements may be a lot for a four-year-old to comprehend, so I was volunteered by the staff at our firm to be the target for a pie smash to celebrate.”
Thanks to a $2,000 donation from the Stolt Family Foundation combined with nearly 40 other donations, they were able to double their initial goal with a team total of $4,215 and event fundraising total exceeding $90,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
