MN Senior Games in Mankato Deemed a Success

MANKATO, Minn.—Roughly 375 athletes competed in 25 Minnesota Senior Games sports in Mankato May 18-21.

An estimated 480 hotel room nights were generated and approximately $250,000 in economic impact was created over the course of the four-day event.

“While the weather did not entirely cooperate, the 2017 Minnesota Senior Games were a resounding success based on the overall feedback we received from athletes and organizers,” said Chris Willaert, Mankato Sports Commission director. “Being able to showcase all that we have to offer people who don’t regularly come to town while also creating significant economic impact is not an opportunity you get often, and I think we made a mark with this event.”

Mankato will host the 2018 nationally-qualifying Minnesota Senior Games, with dates to be determined.
