Revised 2016 Employment Figures Released
Mankato, MINN (March 10, 2017) – The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development released both the January 2017 employment figures as well as revised figures for the previous 21 months yesterday. The Mankato – North Mankato Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) saw a loss of 153 jobs or 0.3% year over year in the month of January. Revised figures for the Greater Mankato area increased the 2016 average annual employment figures by 1,023 jobs to 57,320.
The employment decline in January could be attributed to a variety of factors including a diminished labor pool. Additionally, January 2017 would have had a challenge to supersede the January 2016 employment figure. Last year was an all-time high and had an amazing 4.7% growth rate from the year before.
Good producing occupations saw a 0.4% increase or 39 jobs. This is the first increase in this sector in 20 months. Private Service Providing occupations dropped by 1% or 358 jobs. Government employment grew by 1.7% or 166 jobs.
