Seventh Consecutive Month of Growth in Manufacturing
Mankato, MINN (September 14, 2017) – The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development released the August 2017 employment figures today. The Mankato – North Mankato Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) saw a gain of 1,111 jobs or 2.0% year over year in the month of August.
After a brief period of slight private sector year over year job loss at the end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017, private sector employment has now had four months of reasonably steady growth and is back to the highest monthly private employment levels in history – as illustrated by our private employment chart.
August’s year over year job growth of 2.0% was the first time this year we’ve beat the state job growth rate (1.7%). Manufacturing continues its comeback with the 7th straight month of significant job growth (all over 2.5% year over year) 2.9% for the most recent month (August). The Mankato-North Mankato MSA leads the state along with Minneapolis in goods producing employment growth for August (tied at 2.9%)
"The continued manufacturing employment growth is a very positive sign for our marketplace and is further evidence of our diverse economy,” said Jonathan Zierdt, Greater Mankato Growth Inc.’s President & CEO, “However this diversity and balance is really only sustainable with the attraction and retention of talent.
