DESCRIPTION:At the tender age of 19\, Dmitri Shostakovich achieved world eminence as a composer with his First Symphony. He was widely recognized as a composing prodigy. Over 30 years later he wrote his first Cello Concerto for his good friend\, the great cellist Mstislav Rostropovich.\nIn the mid-18th century Louise Farrenc made her mark in musical circles as a piano prodigy.  Her creative genius spilled over into composing. However\, much of Farrenc’s music remained unappreciated until just recently. Experience her Symphony No. 3 on March 16\, a daring and masterful work. DESCRIPTION:Montgomery | Overture\nTchaikovsky | Piano Concerto No. 1\, 3rd mvmt\nBrahms | Symphony No. 1 \nAfter Beethoven completed his 9th and final symphony in 1824\, composers lived under the shadow of his greatness. No memorable symphonies were written in the wake of Beethoven’s until Johannes Brahms completed his own Symphony No. 1 in 1876. It took nearly twenty-one years for Brahms to complete the symphony\, forging a new path for Brahms and all other composers.\nTwo more new paths will be forged on September 30th. For the first time we will hear the music of the brilliant living composer Jesse Montgomery and we will listen to pianist Jacob Taggart\, first place winner of our first Mankato Symphony Concerto Competition as he performs the third movement of Tchaikovsky’s Piano\nConcerto No. 1!
