Workforce Talent Summit to be held January 17

Mankato, MINN (January 6, 2017) – The Greater Mankato Growth’s Talent Task Force will host a business/community Workforce Talent Summit on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at South Central College from 2:00 – 4:30 pm. All businesses community members are invited to participate.

Our economy is facing a critical workforce shortage. Over the next five years, employers – already struggling to fill open positions – will see this challenge accelerate due to the confluence of an aging workforce, a diminishing worker pool and the need to fuel an anticipated 20 percent growth in new employment due to economic growth.

With a laser focus on our region’s future, Greater Mankato Growth convened a talent task force composed of business and community leaders. The guiding principle of the task force is to initiate a collective community response which will stem from a framework of strategic priorities and action plans. The Greater Mankato Talent Task Force has developed this framework and is ready to roll it out as the guiding document. The purpose of the summit is to engage and mobilize the entire community in successful solutions.

Greater Mankato President and CEO, Jonathan Zierdt said “The looming workforce shortage cannot be taken on by any one private, public, or community organization. This must be a community-wide endeavor. The Greater Mankato community will need to coordinate actions and responses that will help fill job vacancies and increase the overall pool of talent.” He went on to say “Proactive and purposeful talent attraction and retention will make the biggest impact on the workforce shortage. By participating in this summit, attendees will be empowered to lead and help direct the future of our regional workforce.”

We invite you to join us as we collectively work, and more importantly, engage and mobilize the broader community and business professionals to participate in advancing solutions in areas where they can be most helpful. The region needs everyone’s insight, resources and influence to approach this specific community visioning work, very similar to the way we approached Envision2020.

The Workforce Talent Summit is open to all business professionals and community members of Greater Mankato. Registration is strongly encouraged but not required to help the task force better prepare for the event. Deadline to register is noon Monday, January 16, 2017. There will be a follow-up session in approximately six weeks.

To help ensure participants are able to fully engage in this discussion, we invite them to review these pre-summit activities:

STEP ONE:
Review the strategic framework documents to help determine which session they feel most fits their expertise and interest.
