State Seeks Input on Rulemaking for PMFL

As you know the state passed Paid Family and Medical Leave (PMFL) into law in 2023. That program will not go into effect until 2026. As part of that law, the legislature granted the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) rulemaking authority to help guide the delivery of the program. This is very important for employers, as not every detail of how the law will take effect was contemplated in law.

The public has an opportunity to provide input into the rulemaking process through a series of webinars and virtual listening sessions. Any employer who has specific questions or concerns may join these listening sessions to provide input. The meeting facilitators may not be in a position to answer any specific questions, but questions and comments will be used to help draft the final rules.

There are virtual sessions for specific topics that started on June 17, however there will be 3 sessions available for questions about all topics:

  1. Tuesday July 9: 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
  2. Wednesday July 10: 7:00 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.
  3. Wednesday July 10: Noon – 1:30 p.m.
