In Concert: Tim Eriksen w/ Special Guest Liz Draper

11 月 25, 2023 @ 7:00 下午 - 9:00 下午

免费

Musician, ethnomusicologist, and songwriter Tim Eriksen will present an artist talk at the Carnegie, November 25, at 2pm, followed by a performance that evening, at 7 pm. The show will open with a set by renowned string bassist Liz Draper. Both the artist’s talk and performance are free to attend, and all are welcome!

Tim Eriksen is a musician, ethnomusicologist and songwriter in genres including hardcore punk and shapenote harmony, and is best known as a pioneer of postpunk American folksong. Known for extensive contributions to films including the Oscar-winning “Cold Mountain” and 2023 cult horror phenomenon “The Outwaters,” his current projects include writing songs for Alison Krauss, performing with Bonnie “Prince” Billy and creating new works with pianist Omar Sosa for a follow-up to their twice GRAMMY nominated 2009 collaboration “Across the Divide.” Eriksen has long been at the forefront of an international Sacred Harp or “shape-note” singing revival, teaching workshops across North America, Europe and Singapore.

Liz Draper has played with everyone from Sub-Pop’s Grammy-nominated slow-core band Low to the Balkan folk group Orkestar Bez Ime, Pieta Brown, Grammy Award-winning Okee Dokee Brothers, and Smithsonian recording artist folk troubadour Charlie Parr. Liz is a 2021 American Composers Forum awardee for her solo work and is currently touring with 2 time Grammy-nominated songwriter Iris Dement.

This event is presented by the Carnegie and KMSU, made possible in part by the voters of Minnesota through grant funds from KMSU, thanks to a legislative appropriation of the arts and cultural heritage fund.
