FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (NOVEMBER 17, 2023) – Several Mankato area Veteran organizations are encouraging members of the greater Mankato community to display green lights at their residency or place of business from Monday, November 20th throughout the week until Monday, November 27th, as a gesture of support and solidarity in response to the loss of five U.S. military service members this week, to include on Mankato native.
The Department of Defense has identified Mankato native and Army Sergeant Cade M. Wolfe, age 24, as one of five special operations service members killed in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. SGT Wolfe is a 2018 graduate of Mankato East High School. The local veteran community is asking that lights be displayed for SGT Wolfe beginning Monday the 20th of November, for a tentative duration of one week.
A limited supply of single green light bulbs will be available at the Mankato VFW Post 950 at no cost to members of the community. The Morson-Ario-Strand VFW Post 950 is located at 1900 N. Riverfront Drive. The Mankato VFW is open to the public from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, from 2:00-9:00 on Saturdays, and 2:00-7:00 on Sundays.
Local organizations supporting this effort include the Mankato Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Mankato Disabled American Veterans, the Mankato American Legion, the South Central Beyond the Yellow Ribbon chapter, the North Mankato American Legion, the Eagle Lake American Legion, the Vietnam Last Man Club of the Saint Peter Area, Helping Minnesota Heroes, the Saint Peter American Legion, the Mankato Marine Corps League Detachment, the Madison Lake American Legion, the Mankato Elks Lodge, and the Waseca Veterans of Foreign Wars.
