To Feed or Not To Feed The Elephant

elephant in a roomToday’s workforce is facing rapid changes and increased competition across industries. Due to the higher pressure to perform and facing constant change, managers and employees are experiencing more conflict in the workplace than ever before.
I like to consider myself an understanding person that values the opinions and feelings of others, however, conflict has the unique ability to insert itself into every aspect of my life. From maintaining relationships with family members to confronting coworkers, conflict arises whether I want it to or not. Conflict is like the elephant in the room that no one invited to the party. Unfortunately, the elephant is much too big to ignore and much too distracting to maintain productivity. There comes a point when we either feed the elephant and make it bigger or we confront the elephant and ask it to leave. Dealing with conflict in our personal and work lives can be as simple as effectively finding compromise and asking the elephant to leave.
