The late payment penalty for first-half property taxes for qualifying Nicollet County property owners who are financially impacted by the COVID-19 crisis has been waived from May 15 to July 15, 2020.
Properties that qualify: Non-escrowed commercial property with a business that was required to close under a Minnesota Governor Executive Order issued between March 16, 2020 and May 15, 2020. Utilities and taxpayers with over $100,000 of property taxes due payable in 2020 are not eligible for the penalty abatement. Qualifying taxpayers can simply pay by the new deadline. Typical penalties will apply to late payments made after July 15, 2020.
All other non-qualifying properties in Nicollet County are still required to pay their first-half property taxes by May 15 or be subject to a late payment penalty.
All those eligible to receive a penalty abatement must submit an application prescribed by Nicollet County. The application can be completed online halkan. Applications must be submitted online or post marked by May 15.
