MANKATO, MINN. April 10, 2023 – Studio Five, located at 507 N Riverfront Drive, was awarded the Economic Impact award by Minnesota Brownfields. The award was given to a project modeling positive economic impacts for cities and neighborhoods involving community wealth creation, job or housing creation, increase in tax base and/or promotion of smart growth. Developers David Schooff, Oliver Schugel and Josh Williams were honored at the 2023 Minnesota Brownfields ReScape Gala in St. Paul last Thursday, April 6.

“WEB Construction was fortunate to work with a great development team, local and state partners, and excellent subcontractors and suppliers; all of whom played a vital role in the success of this project,” said Developer and General Contractor on the project, Josh Williams, “Best of all, this work has added value to our community by removing contaminants and dilapidated structures. We couldn’t be more pleased with how well this building fits in with the ambiance of Old Town Mankato.”

Developers contributed to the success of the project to its partners, Coldwell Banker Commercial Fisher Group and Fisher Management Company, WEB Construction, Bright Pixel Design and the City of Mankato.

“[Studio Five] was a catapult for additional development projects across our region. This site created a winning formula for a mixed-use product that fits in smaller markets,” said Cate DeBates, Vice President of CBC Fisher Group, “It’s sometimes a rarity when developers and municipalities see eye-to-eye on a project so it’s reassuring to celebrate a success of something that took years of investment and site prep.”

Studio Five was redeveloped in 2020 and included extensive cleanup and remediation from a former dry-cleaner site. The project included adding 19 studio apartments to Mankato’s downtown business district and two new storefronts along the Riverfront Drive retail corridor.

The ReScape Gala recognizes redevelopment projects across the state demonstrating innovation, collaboration and exemplary results in revitalizing formerly contaminated land. This year’s event recognized more than 20 projects across Minnesota, with seven taking home awards.
