Montgomery | Overture
Tchaikovsky | Piano Concerto No. 1, 3rd mvmt
Brahms | Symphony No. 1
After Beethoven completed his 9th and final symphony in 1824, composers lived under the shadow of his greatness. No memorable symphonies were written in the wake of Beethoven’s until Johannes Brahms completed his own Symphony No. 1 in 1876. It took nearly twenty-one years for Brahms to complete the symphony, forging a new path for Brahms and all other composers.
Two more new paths will be forged on September 30th. For the first time we will hear the music of the brilliant living composer Jesse Montgomery and we will listen to pianist Jacob Taggart, first place winner of our first Mankato Symphony Concerto Competition as he performs the third movement of Tchaikovsky’s Piano
Concerto No. 1!
