Last Wednesday 43 participants graduated from Greater Mankato Growth's Leadership Institute. Each year a graduation dinner is held on the last day to honor the participants' hard work and dedication to the nine-month program. One of my favorite parts of this event is when class members volunteer to speak about their experiences and observations. As a result of the state's unemployment insurance system collecting more than it needs to remain solvent, a bill was signed into law this year that will provide payroll tax relief of $258 million in the unemployment insurance system. Most employers will receive a credit on their 2016 unemployment insurance premium totaling approximately 40 percent. Notices are being mailed from the Department of Employment and Economic Development and will be arriving soon.
There's a lot of noise on the social media channels and getting noticed can seem a task akin to pushing a large boulder up an icy slope in gale-force winds blowing down off of the mountain. But it's not as hard as you think. Here are several tips to help you get your business noticed today.
You know what sets our community apart, at least from an economic development standpoint? Partnership. When a new business comes to town to inquire about locating here, the right people make themselves available to share what it's like doing business in Greater Mankato. Our cities, utilities, educational partners, resource providers, and most importantly our businesses work together to tell a consistent message: "You can be successful here."
Enterprise Minnesota recently released their 2016 State of Manufacturing report. As part of the release they conduct a "Road Show" around the state. Last week they stopped by South Central College and provided insight into the manufacturing sector.The report is based on a survey that was conducted February 14 – March 3, 2016, among 400 manufacturing executives; it has a margin of error of +4.9%. Respondent titles included owners, CEOs, CFOs, COOs, presidents, vice presidents, and managing officers.
